Census Advertising

Would someone please explain to all of us why the 2010 U.S. Census is something that needs constant advertisement on television?

I mean during the Super Bowl for goodness sakes!

Advertising for something that is mandatory seems a little silly to me. (as well as wasting millions of dollars doing so.)

Why don't we start advertising for the IRS to pay your taxes or Social Security? Perhaps throw out some advertisements to drive on the right side of the road or send your kids to school...

Government at its finest!

  1. The government has no respect for the taxpayers and is completely out of control. That dumbass in the Whitehouse has talked about government waste and how he is curtailing it, yet the Federal Government he is the leader of is spending $2.5 million on a 30 second Super Bowl Ad for the Census. Not that it matters but the ad completely sucks too. Those people haven't been funny since 'Best in Show'.

  2. Its similar to the Ads for Coal....if it really was such a good idea to burn more coal would they need to advertise? Without any rah-rah commercials, Nuclear and Solar continue to steal market share from Coal. Why not spend that money retraining current coal employees for new energy jobs, rather than fight the inevitable?

  3. Well, the money to advertise coal is not being spent by the government. It is being spent by the coal industry who clearly have a horse in the race.

It doesn't seem very likely that they will retrain all of their own workers for a different industry.
